These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner

These Broken Stars (Starbound, #1)

4 out of 5 stars

Review: The first thing that drew me in about this book was the gorgeous cover. I am a generally not a fan of covers with people displayed on it because you can’t imagine how the characters look like yourself, but with These Broken Stars the cover looked beautiful. Lilac’s long wavy red hair was just as I imagined, and her huge ball gown was bigger than I could have ever thought.

This book has been labelled as “The Titanic in space,”. After reading it, this phrase is kind of true…. read and you shall find out.

At first I assumed that this was another one of those cliché love stories…

but thank goodness it’s not!

I’m not going to lie, it did take me quite some time to get through the start of the book. I just wasn’t that interested, but I soldiered on and I am very glad that I didn’t put this book down. (I would say that it was just around the first 100 or so pages that I didn’t find as interesting. )

*to long; didn’t read

The two main characters (though there aren’t very many characters in this book), Lilac and Tarver are the only two survivors from their spaceship (which they lived in) that crashed. They end up on a planet with no signs of life form. Well that is what they think.

Nothing was very surprising about this book at the start, but near the end I was shocked. I didn’t expect what happened, to happen. I’m not going to spoil anything, as this is a spoiler free review, but I guess you could say that my face looked something along these lines:

or this

or even this

or the cute cat options

It was a very beautiful book and I love both Amie’s and Megan’s writing. I feel like this is a very strong start to a wonderful series and it definitely deserves all the hype that it is receiving.  Oh and the romance was just perfect. All of it! Plus there’s plenty of action and suspense.

If you loved the Titanic, and if you like anything to do with space… go buy this book now! It definitely deserves it’s four star rating!

Oh and don’t worry, of course there’s some frickle frackle in this book.

Good job Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner! And I can’ wait to read the rest of this series!
